Chinese New Year Goodies

Dsc_5023
Collage goodies! & some other stuff... The good luck mandarin orange was from Tiger Beer's stall and I bought the chocolate rats (now there's something I never thought I'd say in my life!) for my Mum and I since we were both born in the Year of the Rat. I picked up the free newspapers because I have a lot of Chinese art planned, and I love the idea of having genuine Chinese text for collage backgrounds, etc. I always worry about 'oriental' text stamps etc. - what language is it in, for a start, and what does it say?  I picked up some Chinese New Year cards, greetings paper and some good luck money envelopes for collage and art journalling. I also bought this page a day calendar with really lovely almost-tissue paper pages, and some stunning papercuts, red rural scenes and multi-colour butterflies.

One World - One Heart Giveaway

Vase_1

Catching up on google reader tonight I saw Jonna's post about the 'One World - One Heart' blogging giveaway. I had seen this somewhere else (I remembered, it was here at Lemoncholy's flight of fancy) as well as was intrigued. There is only a week to go before the worldwide draw. If you want to take part, either by entering draws or running a draw, you can find out more here at Lisa Oceandreamer's site. It is an event to bring bloggers together and encourage worldwide friendships and new bloggers. I think it is a wonderful idea and am honoured to be part of it, even if I am joining rather late.

I will be giving someone this hand-felted vessel. It is chocolate brown and valentine pinks in merino wool, wet-felted. It's about 4 inches wide and 4 inches tall. It's very tactile, soft and squashable and firm at the same time. It will happily go back to it's original shape even after it has been mailed across the ocean or wherever, and won't break if the kids knock it onto the floor! If you want to use it as a vase you'll have to put a little jar inside. Leave a comment if you would like it, and I will draw a name on the 14th. Thanks for looking! ***DRAW NOW CLOSED***

Felted hedgehog

I took a felt-making class on Saturday and I just loved it. It is so tactile and so immediate. It does take about 3 days for some stuff to completely dry, but it is worth it. I am feeling very viral and dispirited this week, so posts and emails are running very short. For now, here is a  hedgehog prototype - I think I will be trading these at Artfest this year, maybe along with some charms, I do like the charms.  I will add my strawberry felted picture and the amazing slice-em-open-see -the-colours  ball and rope later.Hedgehog
